About Us
Coffee’s a wonderful thing. It’s so much more than just the beans you grind and brew. Coffee is a human endeavor with roots in agriculture and culture. We want to help you discover the complexity of the coffee industry, from farm to cup.
We’ll do this by connecting farmers who are doing it right with people who appreciate their work and can support them. We’ll also provide information about how to brew great coffee at home so that you’ll never have to drink bad coffee again!
Hi there! My name is Tim.
A Little Bit About Me
I love music, fountain pens, frogs, and most of all—people. When I’m not in my shop connecting with people over a knockout cup of coffee, you’ll find me somewhere else sharing my passions with others who share them too.
My goal is to create a community where people connect over coffee and then dig into their other passions with neighbors and likeminded strangers. A community that loves to learn and explore, whether it be the nuances of a particular roast or some unrelated and bizarre cultural niche.
My core values are freedom and creativity. I show people that you can put your creative side to work for a business, even if that biz isn’t what you grew up thinking you would do. I show people that self-employment is a powerful expression of personal freedom.
My business is called The Coffee Mess. You can find me there most days–I look forward to seeing you soon!
I'm a Coffee Guy
I started The Coffee Mess in 2004 at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. For 12 years we brought a singularly awesome coffee culture to the Academy. I couldn’t be prouder of that business, or of the team that ran it.
In 2014 my wife and I moved to Hilliard Ohio to raise our kids and pursue new opportunities for The Coffee Mess.
I approach coffee from the perspective of hospitality and community. This is because coffee is personal, its enjoyment, connection, and mood. My goal now is to introduce a depth of flavor to your enjoyment of coffee that will surprise you – showing you a side of coffee you haven’t known before.
The Coffee Mess is my contribution to the vibrant and encouraging Columbus coffee scene.

Our goal is to elevate the coffee experience for everyone in Ohio – and we can’t do it alone. That’s why we work closely with businesses across the state who share our commitment to specialty coffee. By partnering with other companies that are passionate about great coffee, we’re able to help them elevate their offerings and provide their customers with better caffeinated experiences.
We work with cafes, restaurants, specialty retailers and we offer corporate programs too – so whatever your needs may be, we’d love to hear from you!
